Pernille Mahon Nielsen

I define myself as a green inspirer, creative idea‑developer and plant advocate. My ambition is to give plants a voice – to help them be seen as the important, living and sensing beings they are.

I’m not a plant expert or a trained gardener by profession, but over the years I’ve built up knowledge about project development, Urban Gardening and indoor plants – knowledge I can transplant and help grow in my work as a creative developer.

In concrete terms, I work to help Copenhagen grow and transform as a green city. For several years, I’ve worked with Urban Gardening in Copenhagen – bringing together plants, urban spaces and people.

Right now, I’m developing and testing green indoor‑climate projects using indoor plants and plant‑based learning – for adults and especially for children. My experience is that where plants and trees grow, we also grow and thrive as humans.

My academic roots are in health and sports, which has led me through a wide range of roles. I’ve been a social sports consultant in a DIF project; a project developer at a community centre in Amager; co‑founder of a sports NGO for street‑working children in Afghanistan; health consultant and Urban Gardening coordinator in Urbanplanen on Amager; and most recently employed at the NGO Settlementet, working on the development of a social‑economic plant shop.

Now I’m starting up GreenGrowPeople – with a vision to give our plants a (Danish) voice.
